Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) seeks a Project Engineer in our Bridge Department at our Wall Township, NJ headquarters. The role focuses on design and delivery of transportation infrastructure, including bridge rehabilitation, replacement, and related improvements across New Jersey.

You will work with seasoned engineers, use LEAP, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD, AutoCAD or MicroStation, and contribute from preliminary design through construction support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s in Structural Engineering preferred.
• 5–8 years of progressive bridge design and structural engineering experience.
• PE license required or preferred.
• Experience with bridge analysis and design software such as LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD or equivalent.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and NJDOT design procedures preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary project team.
• Demonstrated interest in continued professional growth and development.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for bridges and related structures.
• Prepare engineering calculations, design plans, technical reports, specifications, and other project documentation.
• Develop structural models and perform analysis using bridge design software such as LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD, or similar programs.
• Assist with bridge load rating analyses and structural evaluations.
• Coordinate design activities, track project requirements, and assist with schedules and deliverables.
• Collaborate with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental, and construction engineering teams to support integrated project solutions.
• Apply AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, NJDOT standards, and applicable local agency requirements to engineering designs.
• Participate in field visits, bridge inspections, and data collection activities to support design and construction assignments.
• Review design documents for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
• Assist senior engineers with technical guidance, mentoring of junior staff, and development of engineering solutions.
• Support proposal preparation, cost estimating, and other business development activities as needed.
