Job summary

MoDOT is seeking a bridge maintenance worker at the St. Clair Bridge Maintenance Facility to perform routine and emergency repairs on state highway bridges under general supervision.

You will set up traffic controls, transport materials, and assist in preventative maintenance; candidates must have a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and be able to pass CDL tanker, respirator tests, and medical exams.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Passing grade on CDL written exam and driving portion with tanker endorsement, Class B, interstate status within 60 days.
• Cardio-pulmonary function test yearly and respirator fit tests every six months.
• Completion of a work simulation exam and a medical-physical examination.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and emergency repairs to bridges, including concrete and structural steel repairs.
• Paints bridges and applies coatings using spray equipment.
• Assists in preventative maintenance on bridges in the state system.
• Sets up traffic control devices and flags work zones.
• Operates and maintains vehicles and equipment to transport materials to job sites.

What you'll do:

• Performs routine and emergency repairs to bridges, including concrete bridge repairs and structural steel repairs, paints and seals bridge caps, and performs deck repair and replacement.
• Paints structural steel bridges, including hanging scaffolding, cleaning and preparing bridge surfaces for painting, and mixing and applying paint using conventional or airless paint sprayers and related equipment.
• Assists in preventative maintenance functions on bridges in the state highway system.
• Sets up traffic control devices such as signs, cones, and flags; flags traffic for work zones.
• Operates vehicles and equipment to transport materials and crew to job sites; cleans and performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED/HiSET
• Valid driver’s license
• A passing grade on the written portion of the commercial driver’s license (CDL) exam is required prior to hire date. Must pass the driving portion of the CDL exam with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions (Class B), and interstate status (either Excepted Interstate [EI] or NonExcepted Interstate [NI]) within 60 days of hire.
• Employee will be required to pass a cardiopulmonary function test yearly, attend training on the use of respirators, and pass a respirator fit test every six months.
• Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.

Special Working Conditions:

• Job requires significant physical stamina and endurance.
• Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
• Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
