Job summary

WSP seeks a Bridge Inspection Team Leader to join our Bridge & Infrastructure Inspection Team in New York State, with offices in Troy, Valhalla and Goshen.

You will lead field inspections in accordance with NBIS and AASHTO, direct field crews, review reports, ensure safety, and mentor entry-level engineers while advancing project goals.

This role requires strong communication, technical writing, and a proactive approach to safety, travel as needed, and commitment to schedule demands.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience in bridge inspection and/or design.
• Professional Engineering Certification.
• FHWA/NHI Training – (130055) Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges or current (130053) Bridge Inspection Refresher Training (within the past 5 years).
• Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, and application to project work-related issues.
• Demonstrated interest in structures, transportation or related field and desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work.
• Physically capable of performing continuous field work, including heights and night work.
• Motor Vehicle Record check and a valid Driver’s License required.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, conveying ideas to engineers and non-engineers.
• Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members.
• Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with policies.
• Ability to work schedules beyond the typical workweek; occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Work as a Team Leader on performing bridge inspections for NYSDOT and/or other agencies in NBIS and AASHTO compliant manner.
• Direct other field team members.
• Enforce safe operations in field.
• Create or assist with creating and/or reviewing all required inspection reports.
• Ensure technical compliance with all applicable standards and specifications.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
• Complete training on assignment-specific tasks.
• Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
