Job summary

North Dakota Department of Transportation is offering a temporary full-time internship forSummer 2027 in Grand Forks or Bismarck, ND. Candidates will assist certified bridge inspectors, document field conditions, and use inspection equipment and software.

Applicants must be enrolled in an engineering technology or civil/construction engineering undergrad program, able to lift up to 50 pounds, and hold a valid ND Class D driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an engineering technology, civil/construction engineering or similar undergraduate degree program.
• Requires ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Possession of a valid Class D Driver License for travel within North Dakota.

Responsibilities

• Assist certified bridge inspectors during routine and special inspections.
• Travel to structures across the state and document existing conditions.
• Use inspection equipment and mobile software to collect and record field data.
• Observe and learn inspection techniques, deterioration mechanisms, and safety practices.
• Support photo documentation, measurements, and basic field notes.
• Follow construction-site safety requirements, including enhanced rules.
• Help maintain inspection tools, tablets, and field equipment.
• Participate in team discussions on inspection findings and structural condition ratings.
