Job summary

The Fred Smith Company is seeking a Structures Foreman to lead on bridge construction projects. A qualified applicant will have 5+ years of prior experience and the ability to develop site construction plans with supervision.

You will coordinate crews of 6–12, manage equipment and safety, report production, and ensure daily look-ahead schedules are followed. Work outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to noise and heavy machinery.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.
• Minimum of 5 years prior experience working in bridge construction.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with superintendent and manager to develop project construction plan.
• Assist in developing site safety plan.
• Complete a three week look ahead schedule weekly and use it to plan long-range schedules.
• Communicate with owner's representative, inspectors and project personnel.
• Direct a crew of 6-12 carpenters, operators and laborers with daily safety discussions and task instructions.
• Coordinate maintenance and usage of heavy equipment (cranes, excavators, bulldozers).
• Schedule and direct subcontractors and material deliveries.
• Maintain tools and equipment inspection paperwork.

The Fred Smith Company is currently seeking applicants for the position of Structures Foreman. A qualified applicant will have 5+ years prior experience in bridge construction.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with superintendent and manager to develop project construction plan
• Assist superintendent and/or manager in developing site safety plan
• Complete a three week look ahead schedule on a weekly basis
• Use look ahead schedule to assist superintendent and manager in developing long range schedule
• Communicate with owner's representative, inspectors and any other project personnel
• Manage and provide direction to a crew of 6-12 carpenters, operators and laborers including:
  • Daily safety discussions
  • Specific task instruction
  • Manage equipment necessary to complete the project (cranes, excavators, bulldozers, etc.)
  • Communicate equipment needs
  • Coordinate maintenance if required
  • Maintain required equipment inspection paperwork
• Schedule, direct and manage subcontractors and the work they perform
• Schedule material delivery, communicate material needs to superintendent or manager
• Responsible for maintenance and security of all tools

Basic Computer Skills

Basic Arithmetic Skill

Ability to calculate concrete/stone/asphalt needs

Miscellaneous Duties

• Daily JSA (Job Safety Analysis) forms
• Accident/incident reporting
• Familiar with calling in utility locates
• Enforcing all company policies as described in the employee handbook

Qualifications

Work Environment

Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.

Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.

Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
