Job summary

KPFF Consulting Engineers is seeking a Bridge Engineering Intern to work with experienced engineers on transportation projects. You will gain hands-on experience in bridge analysis, design, plan development, and construction support, learning how technical decisions respond to site conditions, agency requirements, constructability, and project goals.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Completed coursework in statics and mechanics of materials by internship start.
• Completed at least two design courses (concrete, steel, wood, or masonry) by start.
• Basic understanding of structural engineering fundamentals including free-body, shear, axial, and moment diagrams.
• Interest in bridge engineering and infrastructure design.
• Minimum GPA 3.0 in undergrad coursework.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work in a team.

Throughout the internship, you will:

• Prepare and check engineering calculations, design sketches, quantities, and supporting documentation.
• Support development of plans, details, and technical deliverables using structural analysis and computer‑aided design software.
• Coordinate with engineers, technicians, and other disciplines to understand project constraints and develop practical solutions.
• Contribute to team discussions, quality‑control reviews, and problem‑solving efforts.
• Participate in our Weekly Intern Training Series and other mentoring opportunities.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Completed coursework in statics and mechanics of materials by the start of the internship.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Interns primarily work in a standard office setting with occasional travel to bridge and project sites.
• Field visits may involve walking, standing, kneeling, climbing slopes or embankments, and navigating uneven terrain.
• Must comply with all safety requirements in the office and on project sites.

Internship Duration

The internship typically runs 10-12 weeks during the summer, with full‑time hours.
