Job Description

As a Bridge Engineering Intern at KPFF, you will work alongside experienced bridge engineers on transportation infrastructure projects. You will gain hands‑on experience with bridge analysis, design, plan development, and construction support while learning how technical decisions respond to site conditions, agency requirements, constructability, and project goals.

Throughout the internship, you will:

  • Assist with analysis and design of bridge components and related transportation structures under the guidance of licensed professional engineers.
  • Prepare and check engineering calculations, design sketches, quantities, and supporting documentation.
  • Support development of plans, details, and technical deliverables using structural analysis and computer‑aided design software.
  • Coordinate with engineers, technicians, and other disciplines to understand project constraints and develop practical solutions.
  • Contribute to team discussions, quality‑control reviews, and problem‑solving efforts.
  • Participate in our Weekly Intern Training Series and other mentoring opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Completed coursework in statics and mechanics of materials by the start of the internship.
  • Completed at least two design courses (e.g., concrete, steel, wood, or masonry) by the start of the internship.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Previous internship, research, design‑team, or field experience related to civil or structural engineering.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in bridge or transportation structural engineering.

  • Field visits may involve walking, standing, kneeling, climbing slopes or embankments, and navigating uneven terrain.
