Placements24 is seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer for on-site work in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. You will lead the design, analysis, and supervision of bridge projects ranging from pedestrian to highway structures, ensuring safety, durability, and code compliance.

The ideal candidate holds a Civil/Structural Engineering degree, PrEng registration, and 7+ years of bridge experience, with proficiency in MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, or LUSAS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering required.
• Master's degree preferred.
• PrEng registration with ECSA essential.
• Minimum 7 years of bridge design and construction supervision experience.
• Proficiency in MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, LUSAS or similar.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for concrete, steel, and composite bridges.
• Develop detailed designs, calculations, drawings and specs using advanced software.
• Conduct site investigations and feasibility studies for new bridges.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, AASHTO, and other codes.
• Oversee construction activities with QA/QC adherence.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Prepare reports, tender documents and proposals.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and innovative Bridge Engineer to join their dynamic team based in **East London**, **Eastern Cape**. This role is instrumental in the design, analysis, and supervision of bridge construction projects, ranging from pedestrian bridges to large-scale highway structures. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety, durability, and efficiency of bridge designs, adhering to stringent engineering standards and client requirements. Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for various types of bridges, including concrete, steel, and composite structures.

• Ensure all designs comply with relevant South African National Standards (SANS), AASHTO, and other relevant codes.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• A Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of specialized experience in bridge design and construction supervision.
• Professional Engineer (PrEng) registration with ECSA is essential.
• Proficiency in bridge design software such as MIDAS Civil, CSiBridge, LUSAS, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of structural mechanics, material science, and construction methods relevant to bridge engineering.
• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) techniques.
• Excellent understanding of geotechnical principles as they relate to bridge foundations.
• Proven project management and leadership skills.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
