Job summary

GAI Consultants is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern for our Fishers, Indiana office to work under licensed PEs on bridge and transportation projects.

You will perform structural analysis and assist in drawings, cost estimates, and field observations. This paid internship offers real project work, mentorship, and a potential path to full-time opportunities after graduation.

Term: Winter 2026 and Summer 2027; part-time during school and occasional travel within Indiana.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Civil or Structural Engineering at an ABET/EAC accredited school.
• Completed coursework in statics, mechanics of materials, or structural analysis.
• Working proficiency in Microsoft Excel and clear written communication.
• Valid driver's license for travel to project sites.
• Able to work on-site in Fishers, Indiana for the duration of the internship.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States. GAI Consultants does not provide sponsorship for this position.

Responsibilities

• Perform computations for the structural analysis and design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other structural components.
• Assist in preparing construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Support design and layout of project components in 2D and 3D.
• Participate in assessments and inspections of bridges, culverts, and other project components.
• Observe construction in the field for adherence to construction plans and specifications.
• Help review contractor shop drawings and submittals during construction support.
• Assist with cost estimating, reports, and technical memos.
• Attend project meetings with internal teams and, where appropriate, external clients.
