Job summary

GFT in Austin, TX is seeking a Bridge Engineering Intern for a mid-May to mid-August period. You’ll join a live project team, perform structural analysis, modeling, and drafting for transportation structures, and gain mentorship from experienced engineers. The majority of interns convert to full-time roles.

Applicants should be enrolled in ABET-accredited Civil Engineering programs with an interest in bridges, and be proficient in MicroStation/OpenRoads or AutoCAD, and MS Office.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate Civil Engineering program with a focus on Structures.
• Demonstrated interest in bridge and structural design through internships or coursework.
• Basic understanding of bridge design principles.
• Familiarity with MicroStation/OpenRoads and AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a design team.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and 3D finite element modeling for bridges and related structures.
• Assist in quantity calculations and contribute to cost estimates.
• Help develop construction contract documents and review drawings.
• Coordinate activities with other disciplines.
• Assist in reviewing inspection reports and bridge load ratings under supervision.
