Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) seeks an experienced Assistant Chief Engineer – Bridge to lead our Bridge Department in Wall Township, NJ. The role focuses on directing complex bridge design, rehabilitation, and transportation projects while mentoring engineers and advancing technical excellence across New Jersey and the Northeast.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; NJ/NY/PA preferred or reciprocity access.
• 15+ years of progressive bridge design and structural engineering experience.
• Expert knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and NJDOT procedures.
• Proficiency in bridge analysis software (LEAP, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD).
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for complex bridge projects and rehabilitation work.
• Act as senior technical resource for bridge teams and project delivery strategies.
• Lead QA/QC reviews of plans, calculations, specs, and reports.
• Oversee structural analysis, design, load rating, and rehabilitation efforts.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across departments and agencies.
• Support business development through proposals and client engagement.
• Mentor engineers and develop department standards and best practices.
• Participate in strategic planning to grow the Bridge practice.
• Conduct site visits and field assessments as needed.
