Job summary

State of Missouri’s Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance intern to support roadway maintenance programs in the St. Louis area.

The role involves supervised inspections of bridges and culverts, data entry, report preparation, and coordination with local officials. Ideal candidates are enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program, carry a minimum 2.0 GPA, and have completed at least 30 credit hours.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering program.
• GPA 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Completed at least 30 credit hours.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and assists the Team Leader in safety inspections on bridges and culverts to evaluate maintenance needs and assign condition and appraisal ratings.
• Assists the Team Leader in performing bridge and culvert inspections, including routine, in-depth, fracture critical, special, and underwater.
• Prepares reports and correspondence, maintains and updates inspection-related data in the department's Transportation Management System database for all structures, and collects bridge related information on new locally owned structures.
• Communicates with local public officials regarding inspections, inspection findings, and inventorying of bridges and culverts.
• Updates bridge maps, files, and computer records; monitors load posting compliance on state and locally owned bridges and culverts; monitors progress on resolution of critical inspection findings.
• Assists with the inventory and inspection of other structures which are not part of the National Bridge Inventory, such as retaining walls and sign trusses.
