Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a Lead Bridge Crew member to supervise repair, maintenance and replacement of bridges and structures. You will lead a crew, perform layout, fabricate elements, and ensure safety standards are met on Virginia roadways.

Responsibilities include reading bridge plans, installing concrete and steel components, and coordinating with operations during emergencies. Valid CDL/DOT medical card within 11 months is required; strong safety and team leadership

Qualifications

Ability to lead, direct, and train others.
Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations to measure and lay out constructed elements on bridges and culverts.
Ability to read, interpret and apply work zone safety and traffic control manuals.

Responsibilities

Bridge Construction: fabricate bridge superstructure elements; read and interpret bridge plans and sketches.
Bridge Maintenance: construct footers, abutments, wing walls; install bridges and decks; perform maintenance.
Construction Operations: perform carpentry, welding and concrete finishing; install/remove structures.
Emergency Operations: operate equipment for snow, ice removal; provide traffic control.
