Job summary

Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas invites applications for the Leadership Academy Coordinator at the Borderlands Research Institute. This is a half-time position with remote work options and mandatory on-site curriculum delivery.

Primary duties include recruiting a steering committee, identifying leadership components, creating curriculum, and scheduling programs for graduate students. Reports to the Leadership Team at BRI.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management (or similar).
• Excellent organizational skills and a passion for mentoring young professionals in natural resource management.

• Must have experience in leading and mentoring college students and comfortable with speaking/training others.

• Develop leadership curriculum focused on communication skills, technical guidance, agricultural and natural resource management, and other leadership skills identified by stakeholders
• Schedule and deliver programming around existing curriculum
• Assist BRI faculty, staff, and students as needed to assist with coordinating educational initiatives associated with leadership academy.
• Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times, including maintaining data security and confidentiality.

• Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management (or similar).
• Must have excellent organizational skills and a passion for mentoring young professionals in natural resource management.

Preferred

• M.S. Range and Wildlife Management (or similar) and at least 5 years providing technical guidance to producers, landowners, and/or community members.
• Demonstrated ability to develop leadership training.
• Familiarity with providing outreach strategies to a diverse constituency including agriculture and natural resources partners.
• An understanding of natural resources management and private land stewardship is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

• The Leadership Academy Coordinator at Borderlands Research Institute ( BRI ) will be tasked with developing and delivering leadership training for graduate students at SRSU . Primary duties include:
• Identify, recruit and engage a steering committee composed of key stakeholders

• Develop leadership curriculum focused on communication skills, technical guidance, agricultural and natural resource management, and other leadership skills identified by stakeholders
• Schedule and deliver programming around existing curriculum

Received: Reports to the Leadership Team at Borderlands Research Institute including Director, Associate Director of Research, Associate Director of Stewardship Services, and Associate Director of Operations.

Given: MS and PhD graduate students enrolled in the leadership academy.
