Job summary

Bridgewater-Raritan High School (BRHS) seeks internal candidates for the teaching role of Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator to support and manage the district's Work-Study Program beginning in the 2027-2028 school year. The WBL Coordinators will have dedicated instructional periods for this work in their teaching schedules, beginning in 2027-2028.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Standard Instructional Certificate (may be in any content area).
  • Have at least one year of successful, full-time classroom teaching experience at the high school level.
  • Complete the required training as part of Cohort 5 of the NJ Safe School Program (NJSSP).

Responsibilities

  • Match students with appropriate employment and/or internship opportunities based on their interests, skills, and academic and career plans.
  • Evaluate worksites for health and safety risks and ensure compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Visit each student's worksite at least once every 10 days.
  • Develop and maintain student training plans, agreements, evaluations, and other required documentation for the awarding of course credit.
  • Collaborate with employers to monitor and evaluate student performance and progress toward established learning goals.
  • Provide instruction in work-related skills, including resume writing, interview preparation, workplace communication, professional ethics, financial literacy, and time management.
  • Monitor student participation, employer feedback, and student outcomes.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students, families, employers, and school staff throughout the work-based learning experience.

Certification and Required Training

NJDOE requires that a Work-Based Learning Coordinator:

  • Hold a Standard Instructional Certificate (may be in any content area).
  • Have at least one year of successful, full-time classroom teaching experience at the high school level.
  • Complete the required training as part of Cohort 5 of the NJ Safe School Program (NJSSP).

Required training includes:

  • Federal Wage and Hour and Child Labor Laws, Regulations, and Hazardous Orders approximately 4-6 hours
  • New Jersey Wage and Hour and Wage Payment and Child Labor Laws, Regulations, and Hazardous Orders approximately 4-6 hours
  • OSHA 10 Plus for General Industry approximately 12 hours
  • Designing and Implementing Student Training Plans approximately 18 hours

Online Synchronous Training (November 11th or November 18th)

  • One four- hour session during the school day (release time will be given)

All required training must be completed between September 25 and November 20, 2026.

Compensation for Required Training

The district will fund the $880 registration cost for the required training for each individual selected.

Selected candidates will also receive compensation for completing the 38-42 hours of asynchronous training, at the contractual non-instructional rate of $36 per hour.
