Job description

Mare Island Brewing Co. in Vallejo, CA is seeking an experienced Brewer to join our team.

Our brewery, located on the waterfront on the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard, operates a 15 bbl Prospero brewhouse and a 1 bbl Blichmann pilot system, with a 6‑head CODI canning line.

Responsibilities

• Wort production on both 15 bbl brewhouse and 1 bbl pilot system
• Cellar operations; tank CIP, fermentation checks, dry hopping, yeast harvesting, keg washing
• Fining and transferring beer with a keen eye toward low DO pickup
• Packaging—both canning line and kegging
• Quality control
• Inventory control
• Assist with recipe development
• Laboratory controls/yeast cell counts
• Equipment upkeep and preventive maintenance
• Facility maintenance
• Special projects as requested: tap line maintenance, pouring at beer club parties, event setup, etc.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional brewing experience
• Relevant education preferred but not necessary
• Strong attention to detail
• 21+ years old
• Love beer and believe in its life‑changing abilities
• Computer proficiency with excellent communication skills; Excel, Word, Email
• Ability to pivot at a moment's notice responding to daily changes
• Experience packaging beer
• Sensory skills a plus
• Strong mechanical knowledge
• Team oriented
• Passion for cleanliness
• Meticulous record keeping
• Ability to lift/maneuver up to 165 lbs (full 1/2 bbl keg)
• Forklift experience
• 40+ hours/week

Compensation

• $20‑$25 per hour depending on experience
