Job summary

Tyson Foods in Franklin, VA seeks a field-based role to provide technical assistance to producers caring for the company's birds, focusing on proper care and comfort.

You will advise on housing, manage litter and sanitation, monitor bird health and feed, coordinate chick placements, and ensure compliance with USDA regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • 1+ years in farm or animal husbandry preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Advising producers regarding building and equipment specifications.
  • Litter manipulation and farm sanitation.
  • Documenting bird comfort.
  • Management of the flock and equipment settings.
  • Monitoring bird health and providing remedy when possible.
  • Monitoring feed consumption and ordering feed if necessary.
  • Pulling blood and fat samples on time when required.
  • When required, coordinating chick placements to the farms and helping with catch schedules.
  • Ensuring communication between hatchery feed mill and live haul as it pertains to their contract farms.
  • Insuring producer and company are in compliance with the production contract to produce high quality flocks at low cost.
  • Ensuring all USDA and other government regulations are followed when handling poultry.
  • Overseeing adherence of Tyson’s animal welfare policy on farms by the growers.
  • Working with the Broiler and Breeder Departments in coordinating weekly chick placements.
  • Performing other responsibilities as the need arises.

Job Details:

SUMMARY:


This position is responsible for providing technical assistance to producers caring for company’s birds in regards to the proper care and comfort.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Advising producers regarding building and equipment specifications

  • Litter manipulation and farm sanitation

  • Documenting bird comfort

  • Management of the flock and equipment settings

  • Monitoring bird health and providing remedy when possible

  • Monitoring feed consumption and ordering feed if necessary

  • Pulling blood and fat samples on time when required

  • When required, coordinating chick placements to the farms and helping with catch schedules

  • Ensuring communication between hatchery feed mill and live haul as it pertains to their contract farms

  • Insuring producer and company are in compliance with the production contract so as to produce flocks of the highest quality and lowest cost due to good performance

  • Ensuring all USDA and other government regulations are followed when handling poultry


Overseeing adherence of Tyson’s animal welfare policy on farms by the growers.



  • Working with the Broiler and Breeder Departments in coordinating weekly chick placements

  • Performing other responsibilities as the need arises


REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent preferred.


Experience: 1 plus years in farm or animal husbandry preferred


Computer Skills: Basic computer skills.


Travel: 1 to 5 trips per year
