Job summary

The MetroHealth System is seeking a Breastfeeding Peer for the WIC Grant Services in Cleveland, OH. The role supports breastfeeding education and referrals within the WIC program.

Under the WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator, you will provide encouragement to pregnant and postpartum families, coordinate referrals, and participate in CCWP activities while upholding MetroHealth values. HS diploma required; personal breastfeeding experience; English proficiency; ability to work at multiple WIC offices;

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
• Personal experience breastfeeding or providing own breast milk to at least one baby.
• Familiar with WIC.
• Ability to make outgoing and receive incoming phone calls beyond assigned shifts as needed.
• Ability to accept assignments at any WIC office in Cuyahoga County.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
• Ability to be available to WIC participants outside usual clinic hours or the WIC environment.
• Access to reliable transportation.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite.
• Expresses enthusiasm about breastfeeding.
• Ability to interact with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Current or past WIC participant (preferred).
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency in writing, speaking, and interpreting Spanish or another language (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator, provides basic information, encouragement, and support for breastfeeding to pregnant and postpartum women and their families.
• Makes appropriate referrals per Ohio and local WIC policies.
• Assists with the breastfeeding activities of the Cuyahoga County WIC Program (CCWP).
• Upholds the mission, vision, STAR-IQ values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System and WIC.
