The ideal candidate has 3+ years in a competitive newsroom, excellent writing, and strong reporting chops, plus adeptness with social media to verify information live. On-site five days weekly.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in a competitive newsroom
• Excellent writing and strong reporting chops
• Strong news gathering skills and social media fluency for live events
• Voracious appetite for news and current events
• Ability to interpret court documents and criminal justice details
• Ability to spot viral story ideas and craft compelling angles
• Experience reporting in a digital news environment preferred

Responsibilities

• Write and report multiple stories per day in a fast-paced breaking news environment
• Pitch viral and trending stories in The Post’s snappy style
• File real-time updates during breaking news and monitor competition
• Edit stories and collaborate with reporters to refine angles
• Collaborate on cross-coverage across local and national topics
• Vet assignments and facts before publishing
