The New York Post is seeking a full-time Reporter to cover major news stories in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The role requires pitching viral stories in the Post’s signature snappy style and filing real-time updates during breaking news while monitoring competitors for freshness.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in a competitive newsroom, excellent writing, and strong reporting chops, plus adeptness with social media to verify information live. On-site five days weekly.

Responsibilities

With a 225 year legacy and a fast moving digital first newsroom, the Post operates across print, digital, video, audio, app, television and commerce, and continues to define the city’s most talked about stories.The New York Post is seeking a full-time Reporter (Tuesday-Saturday) who can thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.NOTE: The shift for this position is Tuesday-Friday 5:30am-1:30pm EST, Saturday 7am-3pm EST.The Reporter will take the lead on major news stories, no matter the topic, and ensure The Post has the crucial elements covered while working to break our own lines. They will be at the forefront of delivering timely and accurate information to our audience. This role is pivotal in keeping our readers informed, engaged, and up-to-date on unfolding events.Responsibilities:Write and report multiple stories per day in a fast-paced breaking news environmentPitch viral and trending news stories to be written in The Post’s signature snappy styleMove swiftly in breaking news situations, filing real-time updates while closely monitoring the competition to keep our story freshEdit news stories and collaborate with reporters to refine and strengthen story anglesCollaborate with colleagues on originally reported news stories across all areas of coverage, including but not limited to local crime, local politics, court cases, human interest, national storiesVet story assignments and facts before publishingThe ideal candidate will have/be:At least 3 years of experience working in a competitive newsroom, preferably at a digital publicationExcellent writing skills and strong reporting chopsStrong news gathering skills and experience with social media platforms in order to quickly confirm information during live news eventsA voracious appetite for news and current eventsAn understanding of how to navigate court documents and the criminal justice system a major plusThe ability to spot a potentially viral story from any corner of the globe and quickly turn it into a great readThe ability to pick out a compelling angle to a story not necessarily covered by other publicationsStrong news gathering skills and experience with social media platforms in order to quickly confirm information during live news events; think digital firstNote: This role will be expected to report on-site 5 days per week.Equal Opportunity EmployerAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, protected veteran status, disability status or any other protected characteristic.
