Job description

Reuters is seeking an experienced and ambitious Breaking News Correspondent, Finance and Markets to run a social media- and contacts-driven operation that will dig into day-to-day developments in banking and financial markets.

Working with a dedicated team split between New York and Bangalore, the correspondent will aim to develop and expand a contact book of bankers, traders, investors, and brokers to deliver leads on original and exclusive stories, and monitor the daily flow of market gossip.

The candidate will be a constant presence on Twitter and Reddit, building relationships with investors and traders who exchange information and actionable tips, with the goal of breaking news and enhancing market intelligence.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with the skills and ambition to build relationships at major financial institutions. They will cover stories from Wall Street funding deals to unexplained market surges and collapses, such as Archegos, which will be featured on Eikon and reuters.com.

About the role :

• S/he will have a proven track record of breaking news, building strong sources, and covering spot stories with accuracy, speed, and clarity, free from bias.
• The successful candidate will collaborate with the Finance and Markets teams in Bangalore, contribute to the Stocks Buzz service, and be part of our stocks reporting team for major market reports.
• Effective communication with colleagues in North America and worldwide is essential to ensure smooth cooperation. The candidate should be able to write straightforward daily stories and escalate larger issues requiring more resources. Knowledge of banking or financial sectors is essential.

About you :

• Minimum of two years’ experience as a financial journalist, preferably in financial markets or banking.
• Excellent networking and interpersonal skills.
• Strong command of English, both written and spoken.
• Solid understanding of global financial markets, economics, and banking issues.
• Ability to build a visible and professional social media profile.
