Breaking News Correspondent
Reuters is looking for a journalist with strong news judgement and at least three years’ experience working in a news organization to join our Latin American Breaking News Hub in Mexico City. The successful candidate will be part of a fast-paced team covering Latin America in real time across a range of topics.
As a Breaking News Correspondent, you will be on the front lines of some of the most important, competitive and exciting stories of our time, and must be ready to quickly turn your hand to craft headlines and write newsbreaks and updates on any breaking news topic. You will need the flexibility to kick off our coverage of a wide array of subjects including Latin American company news, economic indicators, commodities production figures, politics, economic and foreign policy and natural disasters, among other topics.
About the role:
As a Breaking News Correspondent, you will:
· Strive to beat the competition in reporting and writing news headlines and stories clearly and accurately in a race where the margin of victory is often measured in minutes or seconds
· Edit and factcheck other team members’ stories and headlines
· Monitor and gather news across a range of sources, mainly in Spanish, for developments in regulatory, economic, corporate, commodities and energy, political and general news.
· Exercise sharp news judgment to extract key information from company and government statements, speeches, tweets and TV broadcasts which can move markets, excite media clients or “go viral” with a wider consumer audience.
· Work with our network of colleagues in Latin America and the Caribbean across multiple areas of coverage
