Job summary

SmartAsset is seeking a hands-on Communications Specialist to shape the company’s brand and online reputation among consumers and the RIA industry. You will research and produce personal finance data studies, conduct media outreach, and help grow our organic social presence.

A data-driven storyteller who can find defensible insights, write clearly, and engage reporters, you’ll also collaborate with Compliance and translate data into compelling narratives for LinkedIn and other channels.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years in a public-facing writing role — PR, journalism, or wealth-management marketing.
• Ability to write publishable copy on deadline with a strong portfolio.
• Comfort interpreting data and checking numbers before sharing with reporters.
• Working fluency with spreadsheets; extract stories from raw data without hand-holding.
• Familiarity with personal finance, fintech, or wealth-management topics.
• Ability to engage target demographics on LinkedIn and X; adapt content for platform formats.
• Familiarity with AI tools and how brands appear in LLM outputs.
• Familiarity with SEO fundamentals affecting earned backlinks and domain authority.

Responsibilities

• Write several original data studies per month from hypothesis to final draft.
• Pitch data studies to trade, financial, and consumer press; track placements.
• Edit data studies for accuracy, clarity, and pitch-readiness.
• Interpret and represent data accurately in follow-up reporter conversations.
• Monitor brand mentions online and draft replies with Compliance.
• Foster online dialogue among financial advisor communities in high-visibility forums like Reddit.
• Own content creation, publishing, and performance tracking for LinkedIn and X.
• Adapt data studies and company news into channel-native formats for a wealth management audience.
• Report on engagement and reach; reallocate effort based on results.
• Monitor competitor announcements and industry narratives with a regular cadence.
