Job summary

Harris County Public Library is seeking a Branch Manager II to lead a Tier 3 library branch in the Houston area. The role focuses on directing daily operations, staff supervision, budget stewardship, and delivering high-quality public services.

You will drive community engagement, oversee collections and programming, and ensure policy compliance while collaborating with urban partners to expand access to library resources.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies or a related field from an accredited college or university.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with suitable library/public-service experience.

Responsibilities

• Directs daily operations of a Tier 3 branch, including public services, employee assignments, schedules, service-desk coverage, workflows, and customer experience.
• Establishes and adjusts staffing, service, and resource priorities as customer demand and conditions change.
• Supervises and develops staff, coaching, motivating, evaluating, and managing performance.
• Provides visible branch leadership by communicating HCPL's mission, priorities, and service expectations.
• Leads outreach and community engagement by developing relationships with schools, nonprofits, and partners.
• Develops and administers the branch operating budget and gift funds, managing expenditures and records.
