Job summary

Knape & Vogt Manufacturing Company in Grand Rapids, MI seeks a mechanically inclined operator for fabricating precision slides. You will perform brake press operations, changeovers, and quality checks on parts, while safely loading/unloading materials and supporting packaging and labeling tasks.

The role emphasizes meeting production targets, participating in Kaizen and problem solving teams, and training others as needed. Training provided on 1st shift; benefits include PTO and 401(k) match.

Qualifications

• 1 year of Brake Press Operator experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret technical drawings.
• Familiar with ERP systems and Oracle.
• Able to operate a forklift safely.
• Participation in Kaizen or continuous improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Achieve production rate and meet targets.
• Conduct changeovers and setups on brake presses.
• Inspect parts and machinery for errors.
• Follow packing instructions and labeling requirements.
• Respond to machine faults and downtime, and track downtime.
• Participate in improvement projects and team problem solving.
• Operate a forklift when needed.

Open Position:

• Shift Assignment: 3rd shift 11pm-7am Sunday-Thursday; Training is on 1st Shift (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday-Friday)

What You Will Bring:

• 1 year of Brake Press Operator experience
• Understanding of mechanical systems, working knowledge of tools, die changeovers and ability to read blueprints
• Basic reading, writing and math skills
• Ability to learn and make transactions in an ERP system like Oracle
• Ability to efficiently work in a high paced environment
• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand basic English
• Manufacturing environment; while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
