Job description

Brake Assembler

Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: 1st Shift — 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday–Friday.
Pay: Competitive hourly wage, commensurate with experience — plus a $2.00/hour attendance bonus ($3.00/hour on overtime)
Location: Winkle Industries

About Winkle Industries

Winkle Industries is a premier provider of engineered material handling solutions, including crane components, above-the-hook and below-the-hook lifting devices, on-the-ground power supply sources, and electrical control systems. We're a single-source supplier focused on quality, performance, and value — and our people are the reason we can deliver on that promise.

The Role

We're looking for a Brake Assembler to build, inspect, and test large-scale industrial brake assemblies used in crane and material handling systems. This role is cross-trained in brake relining and will assist with relining work as the need requires.
This role suits someone who already has hands‑on experience taking mechanical things apart, inspecting the parts, and putting them back together correctly — from a previous job, trade school coursework, an internship or co‑op, or serious hobby projects (engines, small machines, equipment, etc.). We'll show you our specific brake components and processes, but we're not able to provide extensive ground‑up mechanical training, so that hands‑on comfort needs to already be there.

What You'll Do
  • Assemble brake components — calipers, rotors, pads, drums, and related parts — according to specifications and drawings.
  • Read and follow written instructions, drawings, and schematics with precision.
  • Clean and inspect used brake components, including use of a parts washer.
  • Take precision measurements (tape measure, calipers, micrometers) to verify proper fit and tolerance of components.
  • Assemble parts into complete brake units and perform functional tests to verify proper operation.
  • Assist with brake relining duties as production needs require — inspecting linings/pads/shoes for wear and installing new components to manufacturer specifications.
  • Operate, or train to operate, an overhead crane to lift and position large-scale brake components (training provided).
  • May operate an electric pallet jack or stand‑up forklift as needed (training and certification provided).
  • Follow all safety protocols and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Hands‑on experience disassembling, inspecting, and reassembling mechanical components — engines, brakes, small machines, or similar equipment. You should already be comfortable taking things apart and putting them back together correctly; we have limited capacity to teach this from the ground up.
  • Ability to use, or quickly pick up, precision measurement tools (tape measure, calipers, micrometers) and to read technical drawings and schematics.
  • Must supply your own hand tools (a list is provided during the interview/offer process); comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and specialized assembly equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, and to stand, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a shop environment involving grease, oil, solvents, noise, and moving equipment.

Preferred (not required):

  • Vocational, technical, or trade school training in mechanical, automotive, or industrial maintenance — current students and recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Prior experience as an assembler, mechanic, auto repair technician, collision repair technician, or bearing repair technician is a plus, but not necessary.
  • Prior overhead crane experience, and/or experience operating an electric pallet jack or stand‑up forklift.
  • Clear communication skills and comfort working in a team environment.
Before You Start

Employment is contingent on successfully completing a pre‑employment drug test and a criminal background check.

What We Offer
  • Competitive wage, commensurate with experience.
  • $2.00 per hour attendance bonus ($3.00 per hour on overtime) — paid for any pay period with perfect attendance.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
  • A supportive, team‑based work environment.
