The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc.

seeks a Laboratory Assistant - Brain Tissue Repository in San Diego to perform essential lab support tasks in a regulated environment. Based at the San Diego Medical Examiner's Office, the role supports tissue donation processing, inventory management, data recording, and collaboration with DoW/USU BTR staff to advance traumatic brain injury research.

Qualifications

Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and supplies.
Knowledge of proper handling of biological hazards and their safe use and disposal.
Ability to follow detailed instructions.
Ability to handle multiple tasks.
Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Responsibilities

Support various laboratory and autopsy processes at the SDME Office and perform laboratory functions as listed.
Screen, ensure regulatory compliance including paperwork and consent; process brain tissue donations per protocols.
Manage inventory of formalin, consumables and equipment; order supplies and track expirations; ship specimens.
Monitor and maintain medical and chemical reagent waste processes as designated.
Maintain a detailed database of donations with collection dates, tissue type, weight and preservatives.
Implement and maintain quality control procedures for tissue handling and processing.
