The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) seeks a Research Assistant I to support the NeuroTrauma Department’s Traumatic Brain Injury program at the Naval Medical Research Center in Silver Spring, MD.

The role provides lab and technical support, assisting senior staff and performing various in vivo and basic procedures. Candidates should hold a Bachelor's in biology or neuroscience and have up to 2 years of experience, with a solid understanding of lab

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, or a relevant field.
• 0–2 years of related laboratory experience.
• General working knowledge of good laboratory practices.
• U.S. citizenship required and ability to obtain a public trust background check.

Responsibilities

• Participate in in vivo and basic laboratory procedures.
• Assist with surgical, behavioral, and other experimental procedures in pre-clinical models for neurotrauma.
• Help operate a blast shock tube.
• Collect real-time data and monitor physiological parameters with data acquisition systems.
• Perform lab procedures including biospecimen collection, Western blots, ELISA, and histology.
• Maintain databases and enter data for analysis, ensuring data confidentiality.
• Assist with data analysis and presentation.
• Prepare standard operating procedures and maintain lab records.
• Manage lab spaces and equipment, and schedule use per policy.
• Handle multiple projects concurrently.
