Job summary

Richmond Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for Boushall Middle School in Richmond, Virginia. This temporary, non-term position supports VHSL-sanctioned athletic programs and requires collaboration with the principal and Student Activities Director.

Responsibilities include planning and scheduling in-season practices, coaching players, assisting in selecting and evaluating assistants, ensuring equipment and facilities are kept in safe, orderly condition, and enforcing

Qualifications

• All coaches must have demonstrated ability to develop and manage athletic activities sanctioned by VHSL.
• Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coaches the program's in-season practices and games per VHSL guidelines.
• Plans and schedules a regular program of practices in season.
• Coaches individual participants to improve skills for the sport.
• Assists in selecting, assigning and evaluating assistant coaches.
• Collaborates with the student activities director and others on uniforms, equipment and supplies.
• Oversees maintenance, safety and cleanliness of uniforms, equipment, and facilities.
• Adheres to VHSL policies and school regulations.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanship at all times.
• Issues and collects school properties used for athletics.
• Plans for an annual recognition program for qualifying students.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Boys Basketball Coach

Terms of Employment: Temporary

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Location: Boushall Middle School

Immediate Supervisor: Principal and Student Activities Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

All coaches must have demonstrated ability to develop and manage athletic activities sanctioned by VHSL. Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

• Responsible for the coaching activities sanctioned by the Virginia High School League, as considered appropriate.
• Responsible for planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
• Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
• Assists in the selection, assignment and evaluation of assistant coaches.
• Works in collaboration and cooperation with the student activities director and other personnel in recommending the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
• Oversees or helps oversee maintenance, safety and cleanliness of uniforms, equipment, supplies and the facility or area to be used.
• Adheres to all VHSL policies and procedures as well as regulations imposed by the RPS division.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times.
• Responsible for the issuing and collecting of all school properties used.
• Cooperatively plans for an annual recognition program for all qualifying participating students.
• Performs other related duties as required.

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Non-term contract, serves from year to year based on the performance assessment and the recommendation of the Principal.

SALARY: 0-5 years of experience $1,600 and 6+ years $2,200

START DATE: Based on School Board approval

Position Type: Part-Time

Salary: $600 to $600 Stipend
