About the Role

Hawken School is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head Coach for Boys Varsity Lacrosse for the 2026-2027 school year and 2027 season. Candidates must possess a proven track record of respectful leadership and strong communication skills with assistant coaches, players, and families. Candidates must be committed to building a positive, inclusive culture within the team. Candidates should be driven, energetic, organized, and motivated, and possess a willingness to commit the required time.

In addition to coaching the varsity boys lacrosse team, this individual will oversee all aspects of building a robust boys lacrosse program at the Varsity, Middle School, and Youth levels.

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead a highly competitive lacrosse program which aligns with Hawken’s mission of character education and Fair Play.
• Build on well‑established traditions of quality instruction, hard work, skillful individual and team play, and a team‑first approach.
• Lead well‑planned and executed practices and training sessions.
• Game preparation and management.
• Preseason planning and management.
• Off‑season planning and management.
• Give deliberate attention to the social and emotional well‑being and development of all team members.
• Maintain team communication with all constituents.
• Manage media relations, promotion, external communications.
• Oversee all aspects of the school‑wide boys lacrosse program, including varsity, middle school, and youth programs.
• Run lacrosse summer camps at Hawken (additional stipend).
• Execute and manage Hudl accounts and tools.
• Hire and manage a team of coaches at each level (in conjunction with the Director of Athletics).
• Act as an ambassador for Hawken lacrosse within internal and external communities, including current and prospective student athletes, Hawken boosters and donors, and the broader community.
• Collaborate with Hawken’s strength and conditioning department, sports medicine trainer, and SID.

Qualifications

• Experience at the high school and/or college level is desired, with an emphasis on experience in building programs.
• Ability to teach lacrosse skills and concepts at both a fundamental and high level with excitement and positivity.
• Strong organizational skills in construction, execution, and management of all off‑season, summer, pre‑season, and in‑season Hawken lacrosse programming.
• Ability to teach, promote, and lead by example the values of discipline, respect, integrity, good sportsmanship, and fair play.
