Job summary

CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL in Independence, Oregon, seeks an Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball to support the head coach with practice planning, game preparation and supervision of student-athletes. This part-time, on-site role requires adherence to district rules and strong emphasis on safety and sportsmanship.

The ideal candidate will hold a CPR/First Aid certification, a valid Oregon driver license, and ASEP certification, with ability to communicate effectively and manage student and staff

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies of the district athletic programs.
• Ability to work with both students and adults in a school setting.
• Ability to handle frequent interruptions during practice and events.
• CPR/First Aid certification required.
• Valid Oregon driver license.
• ASEP certification preferred.
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting clearance.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the sport involved.
• Follows the system of play to be used as affirmed by the Head Coach.
• Plans and schedules a regular program of practice in season, in concert with the Head Coach and Activities Director.
• Works closely with the Head Coach in matters pertaining to scheduling and finance.
• Provides supervision for athletes in the dressing room and during practice, and during travel to away games.
• Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, etc.
• Promotes good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship and desirable pupil/teacher relationships.
• Oversees safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times.
• Follows established performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in his/her sport.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior and oversees penalties for breaches.
• Recommends equipment purchases to the Head Coach as appropriate.
• Responsible for care of equipment, supplies and physical properties of the sport.
• Submits inventory after the season closes.
• Requites submission of athlete turnout forms signed by the Activities Director prior to issuing equipment.
• Responsible for securing the home facility after home or away games if custodians are unavailable.
• Excludes athletes from practice or games for truancy or unexcused absences.
• Turns in rosters, awards lists, transfer student lists, and season scores as required.
• Prepares team roster two days before the first game and documents duties for practice days and game days.
• Attends all organizational meetings as required by the Activities Director
