CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL in Independence, Oregon is seeking an Assistant Coach for JV Girls Basketball to support a rigorous, student-centered athletic program. You will assist with coaching duties and practice planning under the Head Coach and Activities Director.

The role emphasizes sportsmanship, safety, and adherence to district policies, with responsibilities including equipment care and game-day management. This is a part-time position with a starting date in late October.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of district, athletic conference, and OSAA rules/regulations.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work with disgruntled adults and students.
• Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
• CPR/First Aid certificate required.
• Valid Oregon driver license.
• ASEP certified.
• Clearance of a criminal background check and fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individual participants in skills for achievement in the sport.
• Follows the system of play as affirmed by Head Coach.
• Plans and schedules a regular practice program in-season with Head Coach and Activities Director.
• Works with Head Coach on scheduling and finance matters.
• Supervises athletes in dressing rooms and during travel to away games.
• Maintains attendance forms, insurance records, etc.

Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coachesindividual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievementin the sport involved.


• Followsthe system of play to be used as affirmed by the Head Coach.


• Plans andschedules a regular program of practice in season, in concert with the HeadCoach and Activities Director.


• Worksclosely with the Head Coach in matters pertaining to scheduling andfinance.


• Provides supervision for athletes in the dressing room and during practice, as wellas to and from home on away games.


• Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, etc.


• Promotesgood sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship anddesirable pupil/teacher relationships.


• Oversees__-atall times that students are present__-the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted.


• Followsestablished performance criteria for eligibility in interscholasticcompetition in his/her sport.


• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes andoversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.


• Recommends to the Head Coach the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms, as appropriate.


• Responsiblefor the care of equipment, supplies and physical properties of the sport.


• Submitsan inventory for the sport immediately following the close of the season.


• Requiressubmission of athlete turn-out forms signed by the Activities Director prior to issuing equipment for the sport.


• Responsiblefor securing the home facility after a home or away game contest if the custodians are not available.


• Excludes athletes from practice or game if they have been truant or received anunexcused absence that day.


• Turns in the following to the Activities Director: a) a roster with all necessary personal data at least one week before the first game, b) a list of award winners immediately following the season,c) a list of transfer students so that state certification can promptly be accomplished,d) a list of season scores and any outstanding items of the season.


• Prepares athletic team roster two days prior to team's being excused from school and turns it in to the Activities Director.


• Provides the manager with a list of all duties he/she is to perform on practice days and days of games.


• Attends all organizational meetings as required by the Activities Director

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

• Knowledgeof rules, regulations, and policies of the district, athletic conferences, and O.S.A.A.


• Excellent interpersonal communication skills


• Ability to work with disgruntled adults and students


• Abilityto work with frequent interruptions


• CPR/First Aid Certificate required


• Valid Oregon driverlicense
