Job summary

Ponaganset High School is seeking an Assistant Coach for Boys Basketball in Glocester, RI. The role involves developing players, modeling discipline, teamwork, and academics while guiding the team through practices and competitions after school and in the evenings.

The ideal candidate will have experience coaching youth sports, current first aid/cpr/aed, NFHS course completions, and an updated BCI check. This position reports to the Athletic Director and Principal and supports student growth.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching adolescent age students in competitive sports.
• Coaching application process followed.
• Updated National and State BCI Check required.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certificate.
• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course completed.
• NFHS Concussion in Sports course renewed annually.
• NFHS Protecting Students From Abuse course renewed annually.
• NFHS RI State Component course for new coaches (district only).
• NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest course renewed annually.
• NFHS Implicit Bias course renewed annually.
• NFHS Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (annual).
• NFHS Heat Illness Prevention (annual).
• NFHS Title IX and NFHS Sportsmanship training.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individuals, groups, and teams in skills needed for success.
• Supervises team members and teams at all times.
• Knows and applies RI IL regulations and district policies.
• Monitors student academics and emphasizes leadership and academics.
• Models respectful conduct toward officials and participants.
• Collaborates with athletic director and other coaches on practices and games.
• Informs athletic director about facilities, equipment, and uniforms.
• Communicates team matters to the athletic director regularly.
• Alerts athletic director to safety concerns or potential risks.
• Delegates coaching tasks to assistants and volunteers.
• Performs other duties as assigned by athletic director and principal.
