Job summary

JW Marriott Turnberry Miami Resort & Spa in Aventura, FL, is seeking an experienced bartender to deliver exceptional guest service at a fast-paced luxury property.

The position requires knowledge of cocktails, wines, and Micros POS, along with a TIPS certification. You will greet guests, make beverage recommendations, and ensure peak quality and presentation across all offerings.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years experience mixing and serving beverages in a luxury resort or high-volume restaurant.
• Knowledge of popular cocktails and wines is required.
• TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) certificate is required.

Responsibilities

• Greet each guest promptly after seating in a sincerely warm, friendly manner using the guest’s name.
• Present menu, answer questions and make suggestions regarding beverage and food.
• Know the ingredients, preparation, and proper presentation of all beverage items and specials to ensure that every product delivered to the guest adheres to the highest quality possible.
• Prepare drink orders for guests according to specified recipes using measuring systems.
• Remain observant and check in with guests to ensure satisfaction with each beverage and/or food course.
• Stock ice, glassware, and paper supplies.
• Secure liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas.
• Set up and maintain cleanliness and condition of bar, bar unit, tables, and other tools.

Position Requirements

• Outstanding guest service and communication skills, professional presentation, and neat appearance.
• Minimum 2 years experience mixing and serving beverages in a luxury resort or high-volume restaurant.
• Knowledge of popular cocktails and wines is required.
• Basic computer knowledge (Micros or other POS Systems).
• Must be of minimum legal age to serve alcohol according to state law.
• TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) certificate is required.
• Excellent eye for detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective at listening, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by guests.

Responsibilities

• Presents menu, answer questions and make suggestions regarding beverage and food.
• Know the ingredients, preparation, and proper presentation of all beverage items and specials to ensure that every product delivered to the guest adheres to the highest quality possible.

• Prepare fresh garnishes for drinks.
• Stock ice, glassware, and paper supplies.
• Anticipate and communicate replenishment needs.
• Communicate with the kitchen regarding menu questions, the length of wait, and product availability.
• Know the layout of the restaurant/hotel and the location of all equipment and supplies.
• Secure liquors, beers, wines, coolers, cabinets, and storage areas.
• Set up and maintain cleanliness and condition of bar, bar unit, tables, and other tools.
• Assist as needed to maintain standards of appearance, sanitation, and service in all areas of the restaurant.
• Key in (pre-check) orders on the Micros terminal promptly and accurately.
• Present physical and accurate checks to guests and process payment.
• Ensure compliance with all state alcohol requirements.
• Follows guidelines as outlined in Turnberry Isle Employee Handbook.
• Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.

Education

• High school diploma or GED.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to communicate in the English language. A second language is a plus.
• Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of basic food handling policies and procedures as well as the techniques and equipment for preparing and presenting food products for consumption, including storage/handling techniques, proper chemical handling, and sanitation standards.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be physically fit to move, lift, carry, pull, push, and place items up to 50 pounds.
• Also requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout the shift.
