Job summary

Awetomaton Ltd in Boulder, CO seeks a Research Engineer to adapt, train, and evaluate a prototype for detecting and separating closely spaced objects in EO/IR imagery. You will work on acquiring sensor data, assessing algorithm performance, and transitioning software to real-world imagery using Python, NumPy, scikit-image, and PyTorch.

The role requires a BS or higher in engineering, CS, physics, or math, with 3–7 years of relevant experience, and an active SECRET clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in image processing, computer vision, machine learning, imagery science, or a related field.
• At least one year of professional Python development experience.
• Experience developing or evaluating algorithms for EO/IR imagery or comparable sensor data.
• Experience using NumPy and at least one image-processing or ML framework.
• Experience preparing datasets and evaluating algorithm performance.
• Proficiency with Git.
• Active SECRET security clearance.
• Ability to work on-site in Boulder, CO.

Responsibilities

• Adapt, train, evaluate, and transition a prototype application for detecting and separating closely spaced objects in EO/IR imagery.
• Acquire and prepare representative sensor data; evaluate algorithm performance.
• Develop software in Python using NumPy, scikit-image, and PyTorch; follow modern software engineering practices.
• Communicate technical results to engineers, users, and decision-makers.
• Work within a small, multidisciplinary team to translated operational needs into measurable experiments.
