Job summary

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal agency with a mission to secure the nation’s borders from threats and illegal activity. The CBPO role offers base pay, comprehensive benefits, and potential recruitment incentives. Positions are full-time at multiple GS levels (GS-5/7/9) with career progression and location flexibility across designated U.S.

sites. Newly appointed CBPOs may qualify for incentives and a retirement plan; formal training is provided at the academy.

Qualifications

• GS-5: 3 years general experience OR 1 year equivalent to GS-4, plus education or combination
• GS-7: 1 year specialized experience OR bachelor’s with special requirements; knowledge of inspections and regulations
• GS-9: one year of specialized experience or higher education combinations; KSAOs listed in the notice

Responsibilities

• Enforce customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations
• Ensure the flow of legitimate trade and travel
• Conduct inspections of individuals and conveyances
• Determine admissibility for entry into the United States
• Prevent illegal entry and smuggling of contraband
