Job summary

Customs and Border Protection seeks entry-level CBPOs across multiple duty locations. The role includes enforcing immigration, customs, and trade laws while ensuring secure borders and lawful entry to the United States.

Newly appointed CBPOs may receive recruitment incentives up to $15,000 per year under 3- or 4-year service contracts, with base salaries starting at GS-9 levels and overtime potential. Training at FLETC and Spanish modules may apply depending on duty location.

Qualifications

• Experience: A minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level that includes detaining suspected violators and enforcing import/export laws.
• Ability to make rapid, accurate judgments and decisions under enforcement contexts.
• Education and/or combination of experience as described to qualify for the GS-9 grade level.

Responsibilities

• Detaining suspected violators of federal, state, or local laws using proper law enforcement methods.
• Enforcing laws and regulations relating to importing, exporting, and international shipping to and from the United States.
• Utilizing intelligence techniques and behavior analysis to identify potential threats and perform risk assessments.
• Conducting interviews in a law enforcement capacity to gather information from suspected violators.
• Performing duties to secure borders and ensure lawful entry of individuals and goods.

Education

Education substitution: master's degree or two years of graduate education or LL.B./J.D.
