Job summary

Customs and Border Protection is hiring Customs and Border Protection Officers (CBPOs) on a full-time basis. Multiple grades (GS-5, GS-7, GS-9) are available, with advancement potential to GS-11 and GS-12, and a base salary that grows with grade.

Education or relevant public safety experience may qualify you for these roles. Typical duties include enforcing customs, immigration, and trade laws; conducting inspections; determining admissibility; and preventing illegal entry and smuggling.

Qualifications

• GS-5: a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/substitution.
• GS-7: specialized experience or education substitution.
• GS-9: combinations of experience and education described in the notice.

Responsibilities

• Enforce customs, immigration and agriculture laws and regulations.
• Inspect individuals and conveyances for admissibility.
• Determine eligibility of entrants to the United States.
• Prevent smuggling and illicit entry of goods and people.
• Support enforcement of flow of legitimate trade and travel.
