Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agent (BPA) experienced level (GL‑9 / GS‑11) with sign‑on and retention incentives. This full‑time career role supports the nation’s border protection mission with competitive pay, locality pay, and strong benefits.

Duty locations vary across sectors with relocation possible. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, meet residency requirements, and complete academy training.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Residency: primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
• No education substitutions for GL‑9 or GS‑11.
• Veterans’ preference may apply for certain positions.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
• Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers at or near borders using surveillance and various assets.
• Interpreting tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks.
• Patrolling borders and waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, and other assets to accomplish the USBP mission.
