Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking Border Patrol Agents to secure the nation's borders, prevent illegal entry, and enforce federal laws. Positions include multiple duty locations along the Northern and Southern borders, with training at the Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, NM.

Candidates must meet citizenship, residency, age, and education requirements. Relocation may be required; starting pay is around $51,000 per year with potential incentives and relocation considerations.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must meet residency requirements (3 of last 5 years in U.S. or U.S. protectorates).
• Generally under age 40 at appointment (with exceptions).
• Veterans' preference may apply.
• Must meet education/work-experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned border areas to detect and prevent illegal entry.
• Detect, identify, and apprehend individuals violating immigration and other laws.
• Conduct surveillance, inspections, questioning, and examinations of people, vehicles, and property.
• Gather and evaluate information through observation, interviews, documents, and records.
• Respond to and investigate potential border-security and immigration violations.
• Detect and interdict illegal drugs, contraband, and other prohibited items.
• Operate vehicles, communications equipment, and surveillance systems.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of enforcement activities.
• Collaborate with federal, state, local, tribal, and international agencies.
• Make sound decisions and stay composed in stressful situations.
• Relocate to assigned duty locations as needed.
