Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is seeking Border Patrol Agents (BPAs). The federal agency offers full-time positions with competitive base pay and comprehensive benefits.

Recruitment and retention incentives are available, including up to $20,000 recruitment and up to $30,000 retention incentives. BPAs perform duties at or near the international boundary, perform checks, surveillance, and enforcement actions as part of the USBP mission.

Qualifications

• GL-5: One year of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree or combination of experience and education.
• GL-7: One year of specialized work experience showing ability in law enforcement tasks.
• GL-9/GS-11: One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level with law enforcement duties.

Responsibilities

• Detecting and questioning people suspected of immigration and customs violations and inspecting documents.
• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders using surveillance.
• Interpreting tracks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Performing patrols and checks across various environments.
• Patrolling borders and waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, and other assets.

Education

Bachelor's degree or successful completion of a full four-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
