Under the supervision of the delivery manager, the heavy truck driver delivers or picks up materials and merchandise from customers or suppliers by driving a truck requiring a Class 1 and 3 driver’s license. They perform all related tasks in compliance with the internal processes and rules of the organization.
Tasks
- Delivery and pick-up (80%)
- Inspect the truck daily and complete the inspection form.
- Receive the delivery schedule each morning and program it into the GPS.
- Ensure optimal loading of the truck considering the different deliveries and item sizes.
- Verify that the loaded order matches the invoice by counting the merchandise.
- Secure the order in the truck to prevent movement during transport.
- Drive safely from the store to the customer’s location.
- Ask the customer where to unload the load.
- Operate the crane to unload items when necessary.
- Assist customers with unloading merchandise as needed.
- Unload gyproc deliveries by lifting sheets manually.
- Hand the invoice copy to the customer and verify completeness by counting received merchandise.
- Pick up orders from suppliers at the request of the foreman and sign the invoice to confirm pickup.
- Refuel the truck in the evening after deliveries.
Administration (20%)- Record delivery times on invoices.
- Submit delivery invoices and inspection sheets to the foreman at day's end.
- Report any truck repairs needed.
- Complete credit applications for customers returning merchandise.
- Answer calls to stay in touch with the store throughout the day.
- Participate in team meetings.
Skills requested
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience considered.
- Experience as a Class 1 and 3 driver (asset).
- Good knowledge of spoken French.
- Functional English (asset).
- Class 1 and 3 driver’s license.
- Ability to lift up to 120 lbs twice a week.
