Job summary

County of Davidson's Bookmobile Technician provides mobile library services to daycares, retirement homes, shut-ins, home-schools and after school programs, driving a mid-sized van and delivering library programs at various sites.

You will manage a daily stop schedule, stock the bookmobile, assist patrons with materials and programming, and support branch operations when needed, while adhering to safety rules.

  • Prepares monthly reports.
  • Stocks the bookmobile and maintains up-to-date material for patrons.

$16.67 - $21.25Starting salary based on qualifications and experience.Job DescriptionBookmobile TechnicianGeneral Statement of DutiesPerforms routine work operating the Bookmobile and offering library services outside of the library setting.Distinguishing Features of the ClassAn employee in this class is responsible for providing mobile library services to daycares, retirement homes, shut-ins, home-schools and after school programs. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Library Manager III.Illustrative Examples of WorkManeuvers the bookmobile to various locations around the County.Maintains a clean vehicle.Fuels and coordinates automotive repairs and maintenance.Operates a computer.Maintains a daily schedule of stops for the bookmobile.Provides patrons with assistance and programming such as story times and special occasions.Prepares monthly reports.Stocks the bookmobile and maintains up-to-date material for patrons.Maintains order and cleanliness of the bookmobile.Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.Assists in various functions of branch operations (circulation, reference, etc.) when needed or when the bookmobile is not operational.Performs other related duties as required.Recruitment and Selection GuidelinesKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds.Ability to organize material.Ability to order appropriate materials for the bookmobile.Ability to drive a mid-sized van-like automobile.Physical RequirementsMust be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Must possess close visual acuity to be the driver of a medium-sized vehicle and to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.Worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.Worker is subject to noise and vibration.Worker is subject to hazards; includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts.Worker is subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.Worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passage ways.Education and ExperienceGraduation with a two-year degree in Liberal Arts with considerable experience working in a Book Mobile or library providing support and assistance to patrons or related experience.
