Job summary

H&R Block in Illinois seeks an experienced Bookkeeper to handle routine bookkeeping, payroll and client service, supporting our brand and community.

You will post transactions, reconcile accounts, run payrolls, and prepare year-end forms like 1099s and W-2s, while communicating with clients and vendors. This role requires accuracy, discretion, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of bookkeeping experience.
• Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and GAAP.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies and regulations.
• Confidential information must be handled professionally.
• Analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Post financial transactions into subsidiary books and general ledgers.
• Reconcile and balance accounts.
• Generate and analyze financial statements.
• Prepare and process payroll.
• Generate 1099s and W2s and calculate and prepare tax statements.
• Communicate with clients, client suppliers, vendors and banking contacts.
• Assist in client retention and client growth opportunities.
