Job summary

H&R Block, Inc. is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper in Winterset, IA to manage daily financial transactions, payroll processing, and client communications, ensuring accurate ledgers and timely statements.

The role emphasizes accuracy, confidentiality, and strong organizational skills to support client retention and growth within a franchise network.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• National bookkeeping and payroll certifications, or ability to obtain them.
• 1–3 years bookkeeping experience.
• Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and GAAP/GAAP procedures.
• Ability to interpret and apply complete instructions, policies and regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional discretion.
• Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Joining H&R Block as an experienced Bookkeeper, you’ll deliver exceptional bookkeeping, payroll and customer service. You’ll be an integral part of delivering on our brand purpose to provide help and inspire communities everywhere.

What you’ll bring to the role:

• Post financial transactions into subsidiary books and general ledgers
• Reconcile and balance accounts
• Generate and analyze financial statements
• Prepare and process payroll
• Generate 1099s and W2s and calculate and prepare tax statements
• Communicate with clients, client suppliers, vendors and banking contacts
• Assist in client retention and client growth opportunities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Xero accounting software

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• National bookkeeping and payroll certifications from the National Bookkeeping Association, or the ability to successfully obtain certifications
• 1-3 years of bookkeeping experience
• Knowledge of bookkeeping practices and generally accepted accounting principles & procedures
• Ability to correctly interpret and apply complete instructions, policies and regulations
• Ability to treat confidential information with professionalism and discretion
• Analytical skills and an eye for details
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently
