Job summary

Bethel Church is seeking a Bookkeeper in Redding, CA, to manage daily financial operations for a faith-based school. You'll oversee tuition billing, general bookkeeping, system accounts, and technology support while assisting staff and families with financial matters.

The role supports field trips and school events, collaborates with leadership, and ensures regulatory compliance and efficient operations. 40 hours weekly, benefits included.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years bookkeeping/administrative experience required.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets and financial software.
  • Experience with tuition management platforms is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Record and reconcile income, expenses, deposits, and petty cash.
  • Manage tuition accounts, billing and refunds in the financial system.
  • Submit invoices and deposits to accounting in a timely manner.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for leadership review.
  • Coordinate school field trips and events in line with policies.
  • Provide basic EdTech and software contract coordination.

Job Summary

The BCS Bookkeeper supports the school’s daily operations by managing administrative systems, financial processes, and student activities. This role oversees tuition billing, bookkeeping tasks, system account management, and technology support while also supporting teachers in the planning of school field trips and experiential learning opportunities. Working closely with school leadership, staff, and families, this position ensures efficient operations, regulatory compliance, and meaningful student and community experiences.

Minimum Qualifications

Financial Operations
  • Record and reconcile income, expenses, deposits, and petty cash on a regular basis.
  • Manage tuition accounts, billing, refunds, and incidental charges within the financial system.
  • Submit invoices, reimbursements, and deposits to the accounting department in a timely manner.
  • Prepare financial reports, including monthly past-due balances, for leadership review.
  • Maintain organized financial records (digital and physical).
  • Communicate with families regarding billing questions and past-due accounts.
  • Assist with budget tracking and provide support for monthly and year-end reporting.
  • Support financial coordination for school programs, events, and fundraising activities.
  • Make purchases for the school based on requests
Systems & Technology Operations
  • Manage student and staff technology accounts, including setup, password resets, and access management.
  • Maintain synchronization of school digital platforms (such as student information systems and learningplatforms).
  • Oversee EdTech and operational software contracts, renewals, documentation, and payment coordination.
  • Maintain an inventory of school technology assets, including Chromebooks and other devices.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting support for staff and students with school technology.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and the church IT department for technical support and infrastructureneeds.
  • Ensure operational technology systems remain organized, functional, and secure.
  • Ensure production teams have the necessary assets, schedules, and materials in advance
Field Trip Coordination
  • Coordinate all school field trips and assist teachers in the planning process, including transportation, permissions,chaperones, schedules, and risk management.
  • Ensure field trips align with educational objectives, safety policies, and the school’s Christian mission.
  • Model Christ-centered service, encouraging a positive, respectful, and collaborative environment for students,
  • staff, and volunteers.
Event Planning & Coordination
  • Support school-wide events, including assemblies, fundraisers, performances, graduations, and communitycelebrations.
  • Conduct pre- and post-event meetings to assess success and improve processes.
  • Maintain a consistent focus on efficiency and positive participant experience.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in accounting, business administration,information systems, or a related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of experience in bookkeeping, administrative operations, or systems coordination.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) and financial software.
  • Familiarity with digital platforms such as student information systems or similar operational software.
  • Basic troubleshooting ability for common hardware and software issues.
Soft Skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Clear communication and strong customer service skills when working with families and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial and student information.
Preferred Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, information systems, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in bookkeeping, operations, or administrative systems management, preferably in aschool, nonprofit, or faith-based organization.
  • Experience with tuition management platforms such as FACTS.
Technical Skills
  • Experience managing digital platforms, account provisioning, and operational software systems.
  • Familiarity with technology asset management and vendor coordination.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial practices and operational procedures.
