Job summary

New Era Revitalization, Inc. is seeking an experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper to establish and maintain the organization’s financial records and accounting systems. The role reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with the Treasurer, Board of Directors, and external CPA.

The position focuses on accurate recordkeeping, grant compliance, and financial reporting for an operating budget around $7 million, using QuickBooks Online or equivalent software, in a New York environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (Bachelor's preferred).
  • 3–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and grant management.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger using QuickBooks Online or comparable accounting software.
  • Record and reconcile all financial transactions.
  • Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Maintain accurate cash receipts and disbursement records.
  • Monitor cash flow and assist with financial planning.
  • Process payroll or coordinate payroll services.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll requirements.
  • Prepare and file sales tax or other required reports, if applicable.
  • Maintain financial records in accordance with GAAP.
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and assist with grant reporting.
  • Assist with budget monitoring for multiple funding sources.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements: Position, Activities, Budget-to-Actual, Cash Flow.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets.
  • Provide financial information to leadership and board.
  • Organize records for annual audit and IRS Form 990 preparation.
  • Coordinate with external CPA and auditors.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for all financial transactions.

Job description

New Era Revitalization Inc. is a start-up, community-based nonprofit development corporation dedicated to revitalizing neighborhoods through community development, affordable housing, economic opportunity, and strategic partnerships. We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Part-Time Bookkeeper, $35 hourly, to establish and maintain the organization's financial records and accounting systems as we build a strong financial infrastructure.

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Treasurer, Board of Directors, and external CPA, the Bookkeeper will ensure accurate financial recordkeeping, support grant compliance, and assist with financial reporting for an organization with an annual operating budget of approximately $7 million.

  • Maintain the general ledger using QuickBooks Online or comparable accounting software.
  • Record and reconcile all financial transactions.
  • Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Maintain accurate cash receipts and disbursement records.
  • Monitor cash flow and assist with financial planning.
Payroll & Compliance
  • Process payroll or coordinate payroll services.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll requirements.
  • Prepare and file sales tax or other required reports, if applicable.
  • Maintain financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Grant & Fund Accounting
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and assist with grant reporting.
  • Assist with budget monitoring for multiple funding sources.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including:
  • Statement of Financial Position
  • Statement of Activities
  • Budget-to-Actual Reports

  • Assist in preparing annual budgets.
  • Provide financial information to the Executive Director, Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
Audit Support
  • Organize records for annual audit and IRS Form 990 preparation.
  • Coordinate with external CPA and auditors.
  • Maintain supporting documentation for all financial transactions.
Qualifications
Required
