We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our Accounting Team and manage day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of client accounts.
Position Summary
The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for multiple clients, primarily using QuickBooks Online. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organization, and the ability to manage recurring monthly responsibilities across multiple client accounts and deadlines.
The ideal candidate understands that good bookkeeping goes beyond data entry. We are looking for someone who can identify discrepancies, keep accounts clean and current, communicate effectively with clients and team members, and recognize when something doesn't look right.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for assigned clients.
- Record and categorize bank and credit card transactions.
- Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Review general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Record adjusting and recurring journal entries as appropriate.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable bookkeeping when required.
- Maintain accurate vendor and customer records.
- Assist with payroll-related bookkeeping and reconciliation.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets.
- Review financial statements for unusual balances, inconsistencies, or missing transactions before completion.
- Maintain organized supporting documentation and client records.
- Request missing financial information and documentation from clients.
- Keep assigned client accounts current and complete monthly bookkeeping according to established deadlines.
- Assist with year-end bookkeeping cleanup and preparation of client files for tax return preparation.
- Communicate bookkeeping issues and unusual transactions to the appropriate accounting or tax team member.
- Collaborate with the Accounting, Tax, and Advisory teams when client information affects other areas of the engagement.
- Follow firm procedures, documentation standards, and quality-control processes.
- Protect the confidentiality of client financial and personal information.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online.
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, including debits and credits.
- Experience with bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Ability to read and understand Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client accounts and recurring deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Comfortable identifying problems, researching discrepancies, and asking questions when something does not appear correct.
