Job summary

Hawkes Learning, LLC in Charleston, SC is seeking a highly organized Bookkeeper to join our Finance team on a temporary contract basis. You will maintain accurate financial records, assist with monthly closes, prepare financial reports, and support tax and audit activities in a hybrid office setting.

This role requires 3+ years of bookkeeping experience, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with Sage, Ramp, and Paylocity.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or related financial experience.
• Knowledge of general accounting principles, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close procedures.
• Experience with accounts receivable, invoicing, and customer account management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software/ERP systems (Sage, Ramp, Paylocity).

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly reconciliations for credit cards and accounts and assist with monthly reporting.
• Analyze expenses and provide monthly variance reports to management.
• Complete recurring and non-recurring journal entries to support timely month-end close (C+5).
• Assist with tax return preparation, audits, and related follow-up requests.
• Process customer orders, generate invoices, maintain accounts receivable records, and prepare credit memos.
• Reconcile customer accounts and follow up on outstanding balances.
• Partner with Shipping Production to support bi-annual inventory counts and reconciliations.
• Provide general accounting support to the CFO and Finance team.

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable Bookkeeper to join our team on a temporary contract basis. This role will support the Finance department by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with monthly close activities, preparing financial reports, managing accounts receivable processes, and supporting tax and audit preparation activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while meeting critical deadlines.

Candidate should be located in the Charleston, SC area and will be required to be at an office location semi-frequently.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or related financial experience.
• Knowledge of general accounting principles, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close procedures.
• Experience with accounts receivable, invoicing, and customer account management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software/ERP systems, specifically Sage, Ramp, and Paylocity.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
