Qualifications

• Grade 12 with strong Maths and Physical Science.
• Genuine interest in boilermaking and heavy metal fabrication.
• Basic understanding of metal properties and workplace safety procedures.
• Physical strength and stamina for manual labor in varied environments.
• Good hand-eye coordination and spatial reasoning.
• Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team.
• Reliable, punctual and with a strong work ethic.
• Willingness to learn and commit to the full apprenticeship duration.
• Must be able to work in the Upington area.
• A valid driver’s license is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assist qualified boilermakers in fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures.
• Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.
• Prepare metal surfaces for fabrication and welding, including cutting, grinding, and drilling.
• Operate various hand and power tools relevant to the boilermaking trade.
• Assist with welding operations, gaining exposure to different welding techniques under supervision.
• Learn to measure, mark, and lay out metal components accurately.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and the worksite in a clean and orderly condition.
• Assist in lifting and moving heavy metal components.
• Participate actively in all assigned training programs and skill development activities.
